President's Welcome      Southern University  and A & M College

Southern University has as one of its goals, a sincere desire to educate and serve the constituents of this state, the nation and the world. Currently the Southern University System services about 17,000 students from all parts of the world. We offer fields of study that navigate the entire spectrum of available curricula found anywhere in the world. Our faculty and staff are among the best in offering research and educational opportunities. We are developing plans to further augment our educational strategy by providing "Distance Learning" functionality. This avenue promises great potential in reaching those persons who may not be able to participate in a normal corporate classroom situation to obtain the training desired. 

The University continues to explore the educational horizon in an effort to provide its students with the best opportunities available. Cooperative ventures with corporate America, international, national and local governments are being pursued with enthusiasm. These types of ventures ensure that we are abreast of plans and changes in the job market, so that the University can create and adjust educational programs to reflect the current environment. 

While Southern has a number of home pages on the Internet, the BISNet page has a special significance. The partnership among the respective 1890 Colleges and Universities and RBC will continue to have one of the greatest impacts ever on the people of rural America. Southern University has long been a leader and pioneer in providing assistance to entrepreneurs and rural communities and with the capable help of the BISNet program will continue in that regard. 

We consider the quality and quantity of educational opportunities to be among the best available. It is our goal to continue to provide these types of opportunities in an economical fashion. At Southern University, STUDENTS ARE OUR MOST IMPORTANT PRODUCT.
